A new template that should please many of you: discover the custom small-parts organizer with drawers generator !

Every DIYer has this type of drawer organizer in their workshop to sort screws or other small parts. The structure is usually made of metal or plastic, while the drawers are almost always made of transparent plastic.

This new template generates the 3D files to print your next organizer box, but this time at your own dimensions.

The storage cabinet with drawers in detail

The configuration of this template is very simple. First, you will have to define the number of rows and columns. Then, set the dimensions of the drawers: depth, width, height. Note that these are the inner dimensions, which will be convenient in many cases. You can then choose the wall thickness, from 2 to 4 mm. For small towers and lightweight parts, 2 mm will be enough. This thickness is applied to the structure walls, the drawers, and the dividers. And that is precisely the last parameter: the slots for removable dividers.

By choosing one or two dividers per drawer, insertion slots will be drawn inside the drawers, and a 3D file of a divider to print will be included in the ZIP archive. You will need to print the required number of dividers by simply duplicating the model in your slicer.

The insertion slots are designed inside the drawers so that the resulting compartments all have the same dimensions. This option greatly increases the number of possible storage spaces. One divider generates two equal compartments per drawer. Two dividers generate three equal compartments per drawer.

More info about the design

The structure, made of the number of slots defined by the "number of columns" and "number of rows" parameters, is very simple. Still, it includes:

  • rounded outside corners, purely for aesthetics,
  • rounded edges on the front of each slot to make drawer insertion and removal easier.

A clearance is also introduced on the width and height of each slot (not on depth) again to make drawer insertion and removal easier. That’s all for the structure.

If present, the dividers also have a very simple design with only the four corners rounded to make their insertion and removal easier as well.

The drawers are where the design is more elaborate. Here too, the edges are rounded to make handling the drawers easier. The inside edges of the drawer are raw, not rounded, to preserve the entire usable volume. The handle has been designed vertically across the entire height of the drawer so the drawers can be printed without supports. The same goes for the other elements of these organizers: they can all be printed without supports.

You can write on the vertical front face of the handle to indicate the drawer contents or stick a label on it.

Set up and print your storage cabinet with drawers

Now it’s your turn. As we have seen, configuring your model remains very simple. The ZIP archive contains the structure, the drawer, and, if applicable, the divider. You will simply need to duplicate the drawer and the divider in your slicer as many times as necessary.

If you like, you can print drawers in different colors to create visual markers and make sorting and identification easier.
